HIDEAKI HOSONO 細野ひで晃
Hideaki, also known as Mr. Hide, is a director known for crafting whimsical, fantasy-infused worlds rooted in a sense of unity and human connection. His global breakthrough came with the iconic Harmony commercial for Prius in 2010, which became an international landmark moment in the Japanese advertising world.
Born in Düsseldorf, West Germany in 1973, Hideaki grew up navigating multiple cultures, an experience that would later become central to his creative perspective. After attending primary school in Iran in the 1980s, he was forced to return to Japan due to the war. He later continued his education overseas, graduating from Cambridge High School in Boston and ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California.
These layered cultural experiences influenced Hideaki’s approach to filmmaking, shaping a fantasy-inflected worldview grounded in ideas of shared humanity and cultures, themes that consistently run through his work.
He began his career in feature film with A Loose Boy in 1997, later refining his craft at Dentsu Tech before becoming a founding member of THE DIRECTORS GUILD. In 2006, he established DAYTORA ENTERTAINMENT, and in 2008 directed the feature film Dōnjū, expanding his work across both commercial and cinematic storytelling.
Hideaki is a founding member of THE NoLD.
