DAISUKE SHIBATA 柴田大輔
With decades of experience, Shibata is a master of storytelling and dialogue, known for drawing powerful emotion from audiences within the tight runtime of a commercial. His rare balance of humor and drama is exemplified by the Cannes Lions award-winning Tsuruya roof tile commercial Sticking Together, No Matter What, which earned international recognition and helped bring global attention to the idiosyncratic world of Japanese commercials.
His body of work spans a wide range of award-winning campaigns recognized at major international festivals. Beyond advertising, Shibata is also actively involved in directing feature films and television dramas, bringing the same narrative precision to longer-form storytelling.
Born in Kobe in 1973, he studied at Sendai Daini High School, the School of Political Science and Economics at Waseda University, and the evening program at Kuwasawa Design School. He began his career at Dentsu Tech in the Planning and Direction Department, later spending a year and a half studying in Los Angeles. In 2006, he became an independent director and joined THE DIRECTORS GUILD.
Shibata is a founding member of THE NoLD.
